Delivered on 28 March 2014 at Perth.
Finding of Deputy State Coroner Vicker.
I do recommend, however, that Surf LifeSaving Western Australia, local government and Fisheries work together to maximise individual safety concerns alongside desirable fisheries management.
The deceased was a 20 year old man who fell from the reef at Yanchep Lagoon into the ocean when fishing for abalone. A significant rescue operation was undertaken but the body of the deceased was never recovered.
The inquest focused on the circumstances of the suspected death and whether the Coroner was satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that death occurred and the cause of the death.
The Coroner found the deceased died on 4 November 2012 from drowning. The manner of death was misadventure.
Missing Person : at sea : abalone fishing : drowning : safety issues : beach closure : adverse weather conditions.
