On the morning of 24 October 2008 the deceased resigned from work and left the college in his four-wheel drive utility vehicle. That day he sent two notes from Carnarvon to his employer.  The notes indicated his intention to end his life.

The deceased’s brother searched for him in Moora and Perth without success.

On 25 October 2008 a family camping in the Kennedy Range National Park noticed the deceased’s utility with had an apparent suicide note on the inside of the windscreen. The family drove to Lyons Station to notify police.

Police attended and commenced a search. The deceased was not found and has not been seen since 24 October 2008.

The coroner was satisfied that his death has been proved beyond all reasonable doubt but could not find the cause of death. The coroner made an open finding as to how death occurred.
