Summary :  Guido Michel (Mr Michel) was last seen alive on 30 January 2022 and his last known location was in the State Forest area of Flint. He has not been seen or heard of since that time.

Mr Michel worked as an electrician in Fremantle. His employer reported him missing to Police on 2 February 2022 after he had failed to attend at his work place for three days in a row and it was discovered his vehicle was missing from his home in Fremantle and telephone calls were going unanswered. Mr Michel was a single man living alone. His two children resided in Spain. He had not made any contact with those family members since the beginning of 2022. Triangulation methods indicated his last phone service was active in the forest area of Flint.

Mr Michel had a prior history of being reported as missing. An incident occurred in November 2010 when Mr Michel went missing for several weeks. He was eventually found in a poor state, in the forest of Flint where he had deliberately hidden from searchers as he was fasting. The incident was likely a mental‑health crisis. During 2010 ongoing Family Court proceedings significantly affected his mental health and well‑being. The years following documented many mental-health crisis incidents, and admissions to hospital following two suicide attempts. In 2021 he was seeing a clinical psychologist regularly.

By all accounts by 2022 Mr Michel’s mental health had deteriorated, he was estranged from his family in Spain and had very few support networks around him. Banking records indicate that a purchase was made at Woolworths in Fremantle on 30 January 2022 for camping items. It was thought he had travelled to the Flint area to fast again. Triangulation of his mobile phone showed its last activity was in an area near Flint. Foot and aerial searches of the area were conducted to no avail.

On 15 July 2022 Mr Michel had been missing for 90 days and his case transferred to the Homicide Squad Missing Persons Team. By May of 2024 Mr Michel had not made contact with any friends or family for over two years. Proof of life checks revealed he had not made contact with any government or banking agencies.

The Acting State Coroner was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Michel died within days to a month of his disappearance. The Acting State Coroner was unable to determine how the deceased died and made an Open Finding as to the manner of Mr Michel’s death.
