Summary : Wayne Michael Parker (Mr Parker) was last seen alive on 3 June 2023 by his wife at their home in Mount Barker. He had been out early on the morning of 3 June 2023 to refuel the family vehicle and purchased the newspaper, and returned home by 9.45 am. He then left the house again without speaking to anyone and has not been seen or heard since.
Mr Parker was reported missing to the Police the next day on 4 June 2023 by his wife. A state wide request to the public for information in relation to Mr Parker and the vehicle he was driving was released. Information from the public led to finding his empty vehicle parked in a gravel carpark at the Mount Magog hiking trail. There was a land search of the area over the next few days but by 9 June 2023 there was no sign of Mr Parker and the search was suspended.
Mr Parker’s wife is a nurse who worked nightshifts at the Gnowangerup Hospital. On Saturday 3 June 2023 she returned home from work at 8.30 am, chatted with her husband before he went into town to purchase the newspaper and refuel the car. Mrs Parker went to bed. When she awoke at 6.00 pm that evening Mr Parker was not home and had left a note stating he was out watching vintage cars. She expected him to return home later that evening. He didn’t, and he did not respond to a text she sent him about the evening meal. She had assumed he might be a in place where phone reception was poor. She drove to the closest neighbour to see if Mr Paker had been there, she called his sister, she drove to the local pub in Mount Barker. She drove to Albany and checked along the Albany Highway for any roadside car crashes. She called the hospitals.
The Acting State Coroner was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Parker is deceased.
